'The computer game of submarine pursuit'This game requires a 9 V battery. The players are destroyers chasing after a computer-run submarine. The players plot the movement of their surface ship using crayons on the wipable board. Although the players co-operate, the winner is the one to actually sink the sub. The sub knows all about the ships (their positions, speeds and headings are entered in the computer), but you only know its range at any given time. This range defines a square centered on your ship (range is counted diagonally+vertically or diagonally+horizontally but never horizontally+vertically). The sub moves steadily, each time another player takes his turn. The sequence goes like this: a) Ship 1 gets a range b) Ship 1 moves c) Ship 1 gets another range d) Sub moves 1 e) Ship 2 gets a range and so on. After a few turns, the sub's exact path should become known. However, its depth is as yet unknown. It can have three possible values. Now your ships get to aim and fire depth charges in addition to moving (if within 2 squares of the sub). This is done without telling the other players the result, so each player must discover the depth on his own. The sub may fire back at the ship, knocking it off course. It would actually be much more of a challenge if a human were running the sub --changing course and depth, for one. - BoardGameGeek
